Lady Gaga has build her career as a joke. She tried to make it look like ärt, but that backfired and now not even the world of good press, decent performances and music could save her from further falling into oblivion. She's a fad. Everybody knows Lady Gaga as a fad. If you go up to a person on the street and bring her up, they'll tell you the same. "Oh, 2009 was so much fun wasn't it?"
Lana, being the smart woman and artist with actual credibility, realized the GP isn't her audience early on and decided to ignore the media, the glitz and focus on being a true, credible musician. And judging by her Meta scores, she's doing just fine. Too bad she isn't cool enough for some Grammy noms, but something tells me she's not too bothered by that. Like she said, she's focused on building a discography she can be proud of.
