Previously on the day of #LOVEWINS I made this thread above regarding a tweet I took offense to, I understood the real meaning and what she meant. But I found it interesting that she posted it on the very day of #LoveWins...
In her new song "Borders" the second single off her upcoming LP she lists a bunch of problems in the world followed with "What's up with that?" The most interesting lyric for me was when she says;
"#LoveWins, What's Up With That?"
But she groups this with things such as police brutality, poor people, etc which are obviously BAD things. So what is M.I.A meaning is she homophobic or just poor choice of timing and words... twice in a row?

I hope not because her whole fanbase consists of gays so she better be grateful if it weren't for us she would not have a career.

I want to note I am a huge M.I.A fan and I am a huge supporter of her song Borders and the message behind it. I just did not like that lyric and thought it was not needed.

Come on. She "groups" the term along with other expressions like "queen," "killing it," "slayin it," "being bae," and "breaking the internet." She's critiquing the fact of "love wins" being reduced to an internet slang people toss out for fun along with the others, when in reality, "love" isn't really winning, as can be seen by the atrocities taking place in the world.

I don't think so but she's kinda like those annoying people who'd ruin any good moment by trying to drive to the attention to something worse instead of letting people have their moment while throwing the "none of my business *frogs emoji*" at the end.

I thought it was just a criticism of the saying "love wins" because like we haven't actually won yet, not with gays getting marriage equality.

No. She's just saying that the whole #lovewins trend did nothing to help the actual issue. If anything, it just oversimplified a pressing social issue, and it's just not true, love is not winning. Every catchphrase or viral hash tag that she shouts out in that verse are direct tongue and cheek shade thrown onto the internet generation. M.I.A has always been unsupportive of the internet fads and trends - we know this.

the absolute most.
She's just mentioning various topics in order to bring attention to it and have the listener question aspects about the issue. I'll pray for ya'll in this thread tho

Even if she would be homophobic, the gays would still like her ... I mean, look at Azealia's fans

This.
I like her, and plan to listen to more of her music. If I don't like her material, she's a great person and I respect her for it.
We need more people like M.I.A, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Elton John, John Lennon, Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix....
These people are role models girls, y'all should open your eyes and ears.
Edit: I can't believe I forgot Madonna. Her too! She's dope.

No, by #LoveWins she means to say "what love?" when inequality and hate is still happening, hence police brutally, poor people, etc. nothing to do with gays and lesbians getting married.

Oh gosh...ATRL reading between the lines ability strikes again.
Read the lyrics. They're a provocation on social media during a time of new immigration streams and class and racial differences : saying "borders (what's up with that)", "#lovewins (what's up with that)" or "slaying it (what's up with that)" is criticizing how we should react to new evolutions in our world compared to what we actually do...using hashtags and being passive on our smartphones.

The lyrics in that song are more like making fun of our current society in general
MIA is such a badass queen

OP clearly doesn't have the comprehension skills required when understanding M.I.A.'s non-basic lyrics.
