Trust me, I've had the game since it was in beta.
The amount of artists in the game database does effect the processing speed due to more releases happening in the game.
One of the reasons why the game loads slow is because of the calculations of the records. The database has to track, calculate and work out the sales/positions etc.
That's why the option to archive records is available, to reduce loading times and easing pressure on the processing side.
Festivals and award shows, aren't really so much. Unless, you have a ton of festivals and your artists get about 30 invites
Award shows, I'm not too sure about, but I think it's best not to import them either way, due to them being buggy for a few people.
