I didn't realise rhyming girl with world was a songwriting cliche. Also didn't realise that apparently they don't rhyme either Is it really that bad? It sounds fine in b0ps like American Girl, Your Girl, and Only Girl.

How did you not notice before? Probably the most overused near rhyme ever most of our faves have used it.

I guess I just ignored it cause it always seems natural to rhyme those two. I mean what else would you rhyme girl/world with? Twirl, Hurled, Curled? I wonder if I'll get marked down if I use it.
Mess @ this convo. Yes, girl/world is very overused. It does rhyme, but it's not a perfect rhyme, it's a good slant/near rhyme. It's just overdone because, well, what else are you gonna rhyme with world that doesn't sound totally contrived? It's the simplest one and it's a proven combination in pop music. Pretty much everyone has done it.

Paradise wasn't on the original track list and NOD is nice but overrated.

Yeah, Shake Shake won that battle.
Well it was the lead single, not really surprising.
Kind of a low-key annoying bop. The chorus is very bland. If this were an instrumental track, it'd be better. For the first time I find her voice annoying and I don't wanna listen to it but I hope the bridge salvages something. Yes it does, a bit. However, the lyrics are too try hard for the rest of the song. This should've been pasted on a better song because the bridge is exceptional. I want more of the guy's voice, please.
5/10
8. Down Side of Me
Finally a different style in the production. It's probably my favorite instrumentation so far (besides track 6). I love the two member's harmony. They should do that more often because the girl's voice is too thin sometimes, even if it is good. I would do without the synth on the chorus (the thick one), I love the other one that comes in later, it's sweet and nostalgic. The bridge is very great. I love the choice of synth there and the drum patterns are beautifully done. I love the repetition here, it adds a hypnotizing factor. I wish the chorus were stronger.

9. Playing Dead
Another interesting intro and this time the beat kicking in is not disappointing. It sounds grand and it works with this song. All the synths mesh well together (sometimes different synth sounds just sound bland together). This is very colorful. I feel blacks in the drum and bass section and reds and greens from the synth sounds which is very pleasing. Ooh the bridge is quick and effective. One of those I would turn all the way up in the car while singing along emotionally.

Camouflage: The piano at the beginning made me expect a "Timebomb" type of song where the verses were over a piano and there would be an anthemic chorus. Although this song does not do that, I'm stunned by the lyrical quality of this song ("fortress around my heart" ) and the overall effectiveness of this song. The song is beautiful with the exception of the choice to include a swear word in the chorus, which sticks out in an awkward way. 9.4/10
"Me Against The Rhythm" (featuring Madonna) : I was not expecting this kind of song after a song like Camouflage but I still think there's some degree to which it's not jarring. The infectious chorus and production help create a very memorable song even though the bridge is unarguably of lower quality to the rest of the song. The hook is this song's redemption for those verse though. 8.7/10
Survivors: "You built me from a broken heart/With bricks you made from broken parts". This opening lyric >>>. It made such high expectations for the song that it nearly met. The verses are impeccable and that post-chorus Shame about those somewhat repetitive choruses that are boring and seem to rely on the production to carry it, which it does but I'm still not happy with it 8.2/10
Body Heat: The little instrumental at the beginning really set the scenes for what the song would follow, an incredibly sexy verse that isn't just blatant sexual references (minus the "screaming" line which was very cringe-worthy). However that chorus is just so noisy and would've been so much more sultry if it wasn't so overproduced and badly-sung. This song was a large drop in quality from the previous couple of songs and I'm not looking forward to the rest of the album if this is an indicator of where it's going. 6/10
The synth sounds so cheap. Anyway, the beat doesn't help, nor does the melody, nor do the vocals. The prechorus however is perfect. (Unless this is the chorus? ) Nope it was the prechorus! The chorus is messy but I like it. It's getting more tolerable as I keep listening. The first 30 seconds were so horrible but the rest has been pretty great actually The small instrumental bridge is nice and danceable. Another one I'd probably sing emotionally in the car cause it kinda feels anthemic after a while.

11. Afterglow
Ooh, a softer song. This is great. I do enjoy her voice a lot here, it meshes well with the synth. The melody is very authentically 80s. This would've been a perfect cheesy 80s ballad (I can imagine some 80s one hit wonder singing this) but it's a nice modern song, too. It's a very welcomed change of pace. However, after a while it seems to drag on a bit. I want a beat to kick in so many times haha. I feel like I might get used to it, though. Like Justin Timberlake's Blue Ocean Floor (though not nearly as good).

12. Get Away
Yes, everything is perfect so far. The intro is so addictive. I also like the vocal effects. It fills the singer's voice a lot. The chorus is close to being 90s goodness, but some of the melody fails it. The instrumental is perfect though It's defintiely one of my favorites so far. I love the little details in the drum patterns. It fills the bottom end of the song, and it's just so pleasing. The final chorus definitely feels fuller with the complete instrumentation. I'll definitely be listening to this more often.
The drums are very Latin but the melody is ballad style. Somehow it fits. I love this guy's voice. Can he do a whole album, please? Right when it was dragging, the perfect prechorus kickced in. The drums are so good! The chorus (?) is very unique and I enjoy it, unless that wasn't the chorus and what I thought was the prechorus is the chorus. Ugh. I have never run into this problem with other artists. Sometimes it's cool, but sometimes it leaves me wanting more. Luckily the weird voice affect does give me that something more. It was a very short song, structurally so it felt short even if it was almost four minutes. Definitely has replay value!
8.7/10
14. Bow Down
Cool instrumental but at this point, I am tired of her voice. At least on this song. The chorus is very bland, leaves me feeling empty. Not the best closing track, it's filler.
