EYES OPEN EYE - CHVRCHES

Make Them Gold
Very nice opening. The instrumental is exceptional but the singer's voice isn't selling this specific melody. The chorus falls flats. It's also cheesy and not the good kind of 80s cheesy. Okay the second verse was so much better but the melody still leaves me wanting one more note to be hit. I don't know which one but it's empty without it. Everything improves tenfold during the bridge. It's the best bridge of the album so far. The chorus however, brings the whole song down.

Clearest Blue
Before playing this, I was looking forward to it because of the title. It looks very graceful (and I have written a song called Clear Blue before hehe). Very nice opening. However, it feels formulaic at this point (all the songs have started the same). I feel like this could've been so much more interesting without the drums during the first verse. The pre chorus is very nice, though. I think I just missed the chorus. They don't have good transitions into their chorus and I understand it's not necessary but it leaves me wanting one. Their choruses sound like pre chourses

but I guess I do like this one. Yas @ the breakdown. It's very euphoric and perfect

it also came in very naturally. The bridge being sung over it makes her thin vocals stand out in a good way. I guess it ended on a very good note. A second listen will surely do wonders.

High Enough to Carry You Over
This one started amazingly. Very disco-y. Ah, it's a man singing it. His voice is such a nice change of pace, it's fuller and overall more enjoyable (although I feel like the girl's voice was perfect in track 3). This one is so catchy and well composed. The chorus first so perfectly into the song, and it doesn't sound like a prechorus (which this song also has!) I need a couple more songs like this please. The synth is so nostalgic. I love it. The halving of the tempo during the bridge is a nice tough.
