Yes, they use it to compare CURRENT albums. They don't use album equivalents to compare albums from 2000 and 2015.

In today's climate, even a flop single can manage 100M streams (~67k albums) and with even "flop" singles like "Pretty Girls" drawing in well over 3M streams a month, it'll be no time before streaming overcompensates for the shift in the market.

Pretty Girls has under 30M streams WW on On-Demand Services. Where are you getting 100M?

VEVO views do not count for SEA.

I mean, just about any artist with a big hit can get 1B views (~667k albums) for one single. Justin alone has pulled almost 1B streams in a month, and his album has only been out for two full weeks. And unlike catalog album sales, which only seem to favor rock and male-oriented artists, streaming lifts the catalog sales for all non-country artists.

Again...VEVO Views do not count as SEA....

So by this logic, a #1 single in 2013 that sold an average 5M copies in US, is bigger than every single #1 from the 90's (bar Candle in the Wind) since no single in the 90's sold that much?

Obviously not. They're two different eras, so you can't compare the sales. You'd have to adjust based on what the market for singles was like in that period.

Hence this applies with albums too.
