For the same reason xtina stans were so bitter about Britney.
They see an artist they deem less talented outsell them globally and instead of hoping their fave come out with more global sounding music and fixing their personality to be more likable and relatable they take frustrations out against the artist.
During the low point in their career they salivate and are ready to feast as if their fave has all of he sudden outperformed them globally or something.
It's a shame but there's nothing that can be done.
If the one that outdid their fave flops then the obsession just takes over. There is glee as if their fave all of the sudden woke up with 9 more #1 hits or something.
If the one that outdid their fave succeeds they will just find some way to discredit her. Still with obsession but the hurt, pain and sorrow just bleed through with every angry punch of the key. It's just like gaga to Katy, too.
Currently, random gaga/beyonce/taylor stans to Adele.
