Katy's last album overshadowing hers seriously destroyed her ego. It was clear that her first album's incredible success got to her head, and by then, she thought that she was unstoppable.

It's so weird how Gaga was initially supposed to cater to a mass audience again with ARTPOP while Katy was initially trying to cater to a more mature audience with PRISM, and yet by the end of both eras, Gaga's fan base is pretty much exclusive to the gays while Katy's fan base is younger than it ever has been.
