Well the movie didn't have an already attractable, established character for IT to shoehorn into the role and take credit for.

Sandra Bullock, a highly adored actress the GP actually likes without media propaganda, helped the movie gross upwards of $700M+ and get rave reviews. The director of that film probably couldn't be more thankful that someone with actual star power got the role and made it such a success.
