So Candle In The Wind 1997 still holds the combined albums and singles record at 3.45 million. If Adele breaks that, given the circumstances surrounding that single's release, Adele will set a record no one will ever break.

were are talking album sales, why are you talking about single sales. What you talking about don't exist nor matter. you can't compare a single sales to album sales. Nsync hold the record for best selling album not CITW since it is not an album.

Because CITW holds the record for most copies sold of the same record in a single week, even if it's not an album, so his post is actually very relevant to the conversation, even if you don't think so!

I'm combining the two records, albums and singles, because I think 25 has a chance to break the combined record. So I will continue to list CITW 97 as the overall Soundscan record holder because it sold a million more copies than NSA in its first week. We already know, with at least 95% certainty, 25 will beat N'Sync. So I'm listing the top sales record overall for Soundscan, and that will not change.

I actually think 25 should come close, or I wouldn't be listing the CITW 97 total. I'm certainly not using EJ's 3.45 million as a "shade" to Adele fans, because I think she'll sell around 3.5 million her first week, which would beat CITW 97. That's the real reason I'm combining the records. Don't take this as an insult when I'm trying to use it as a compliment lol.

I understand your concerns too. People who know me on here would consider me a peacemaker 95% of the time, as I really try to find something good in every artist (Garth Brooks is an exception to the rule). I don't like to troll, even if the thread were about Garth. You didn't realize that, nor did you know I like Adele and what she stands for, so I can see how you were taking what I was saying the wrong way.

thriller had 37 weeks on #1 tho, 21 had 24 weeks. but were longer inside top 100 and 200.
however, the level of dominance in the industry with 21 and seemingly now with 25 is unprecendented i'd say, maybe matched only by beatles 64-70

How much did a CITW physical single cost ? Were they sold at the same price as albums back then ?
