I think adele will probably keep it forever

At least Britney held it the longest.
Britney remains #1 holding it for 15 years and 7 months
1) Britney May 2000-November 2015
2) Whitney 1987-1993 I remember some show saying her 2nd album debuted at #1 (first female and was the highest sales at that time)
3) Mariah 1995-2000 this might have been the 700k figure from her daydream album or something
4) Janet 1993-1995 I remember an article saying Janet. debut at 342kish or something and was the highest sales week for a female before Mariah.

Not sure about madonna.
I'm assuming Carole King and maybe aretha held records in the 60s and 70s respectively. not sure
