I didn't say that there was anything wrong with Adele making generic music or ripping off her old sound. The person in my avi shamelessly ripped off her debut album for her sophomore effort, and it was a huge success so I don't blame either of them.

It's just that at least I can admit that my faves are pretty pop packages meant to appeal to the masses and rake in the dough. I don't care how well Adele can sing; she's just as, if not even more, gimmicky and contrived than the rest of the industry. Most pop stars' selling points are their looks and hers is her voice.

She's the new Celine Dion: an extremely safe and unthreatening vocal powerhouse who shifts an unheard of number of records and wins an incredible number of prestigious awards despite not being anything different from what we've seen before regardless of media propaganda.

Well actually Adele seems more unique/fresh/exciting because Celine broke out (in the US) on the heels of Mariah's debut and Whitney's Bodyguard. What major popstar can sing nowadays? But you're right about the rest. Except her image is also important, not just her voice. She's dressed, coiffed and photographed like some timeless soul singer from a bygone era.

Adele thrives only because she's positioned as anti to the pop industry. It seems like she is only praised when compared to something perceived as negative. "She's a breath of fresh air!" "She isn't a **** like those other girls!" "She can actually sing unlike that Britney!"

There's nothing novel about her, if the GP had the capacity to seek out music other than what they hear on the radio, they'd understand this.

It is fitting that she collaborated with Bruno Mars on 25 since his whole second album and "Uptown Funk" era image also capitalized off of the whole "Old muzik is soooooo beht3r!!!!" mindset that the GP has been embracing.

But at least he capitalizes off of a fun and identifiable era. Sad that even in 2015, people are still looking for replacements for Barbra Streisand, Bette Middler, and Carly Simon.
