Oh yeah, I forgot about her. She's a great example, especially because her music quality peaked with her trying something different and out of the box.

No one remembers her power pop stuff before JLP, nor her MOR, Adult Contemporary crap she was shelling out afterward. Most of the time, it's the good music that gets released with comfort from the label while the crappy music is being pushed by the artists themselves.
