Britney did evolve image-wise in 2001 and then furthered this by evolving musically in 2004-2007, but unfortunately she regressed after that.

Beyoncé is evolving. Yes, she makes first and foremost R&B music, but R&B music is several different styles and not on united one. In 2003 she sang more "classic" R&B and then evolved into PR&B in 2013.

One could make a case for Katy Perry not evolving. Especially during her Teenage Dream and PRISM eras, but the problem with Katy, GaGa, Adele and several other mentioned artists are that they have only released 2-3 albums. If the first album is successful, why break the formula?

You must be really young or something to not know that P!nk started out as an R&B singer in LA Reid's design and for her 2nd album she took control of her own sound that was even more successful, even when LA Reid doubted her.

Considering Beyonce is in the music industry for almost 20 years, the evolution shown in her music (or better to say the music her team of producers and songwriters created for her brand) is tragically slow and safe.

Yes they are, glad you agree

Mariahs music is not atistically evolving, its always the same cheesy stuff over and over again, (and yes, I have heard Hero, The Roof and so on, unfortunatelly). Its always the same formula. Her music is successful because it allows her to showcase her voice and all the vocal acrobatics, thats what caries her career, not artistic growth and innovation.

And my avie is flawless. If you had an idea to whom it is related, you wouldnt call it snobbish in the slightest hun.

Rihanna had a slight evolution from AGLM to GGGB and a large one from GGGB to Rated R.
Truthfully everything else has been trying to be a mix of albums 3 and 4 - commercial, bop heavy, and out of *****s to give.
I do - however - feel R8/ANTi will mark a new sonic evolution from her, and I can't wait to hear it.

Beyoncé's albums all sound distinct:
Dangerously in Love: largely down-the-middle, harmony heavy classic R&B
B'Day: hard urban bangers, staccato vocals
I Am... Sasha Fierce: 1/2 acoustic ballads and 1/2 pop and urban bangers
4: experimental world-influenced and 70s influenced powerhouse R&B
BEYONCÉ: largely sexy trap influenced PBR&B and neo soul

B'Day was inspired loosely by "Crazy In Love" - a focus on live instrumentation, big sounds, heavy percussion - but they cranked it all the way up. The album was risky sonically - Beyoncé was tackling beats most rappers would even shy away from, but her powerhouse vocal allowed her to tackle production that would chew up and spit out almost any other pop or R&B girl. This album cemented the first "Beyoncé sound" that Bey became known for, and was a departure from the classic R&B vibe of Dangerously in Love.

The least evolution displayed between albums would have to be between 2006 and 2008. Mathew clearly looked at B'Day's split audience. The huge success of the acoustic pop-R&B track "Irreplaceable" inspired the first disc and the heavy urban support for random album cuts like "Upgrade U" and "Get Me Bodied" inspired disc two. I Am... Sasha Fierce's purpose was to superserve both audiences and propel her to global superstardom and it did just that.

Her largest evolution came between I Am... Sasha Fierce and 4. She went from incredibly structured down-the-middle pop and urban material to experimental R&B with a variety of global influences. Compare any ballad on I Am... to "1+1" and you can clearly hear sonic evolution. You can also compare any uptempo from her career before 2010 to "End of Time" or "Countdown". 4 reintroduced Beyoncé to the world as an entirely different kind of artist.

While there was a clear a sonic evolution between 4 and the blockbuster BEYONCÉ, Bey was largely praised for the lyrical evolution displayed on the fifth album. She tackled more explicit and sexual territory than ever before in her decade-long solo career or her prior years as the frontwoman of Destiny's Child.

Not changing style =/= bad artist. Sometimes, always changing your style can make you a bad artist. It's really not a definitive thing. Justin, Nicki and Katy haven't changed their style since joining the mainstream and look at them.
