Freshman - 9th grade (first year of high school)
Sophomore - 10th grade (second year)
Junior - 11th (third year)
Senior - 12th (final year)
That's how it works in 4-year college programs also, except you don't use the "grades" anymore. So college would just be:
Freshman - first year of college
Sophomore - second year
Junior - third year
Senior - final year
