The reality is, Katy's team in the PRISM era was a mess. Roar, Dark Horse, Birthday, This Is How We Do, Legendary Lovers and Walking on Air all could have been hits like the 6 TD singles. Uncle was the only "misfire" single choice.

It could have just as easily been Walking on Air with a bad video and Legendary Lovers with little radio support because they wanted Birthday as the fifth single.

Also people need to stop using the video excuse. I love the video but it's a cheap studio video with a couple of costume and set changes. Let's not act like it's some cinematographic masterpiece. We have Spotify receipts to prove the song was a hit anyway.

Birthday had the airplay, and it was #13 in sales. It needed the streaming and the video killed it. Otherwise it would've been Top 10 easily that week.

She could have had a TD era again had Uncle not ruined the momentum. Dark Horse was literally a miracle (and was technically released before Uncle so it doesn't count). Every release after Uncle underperformed. The true era killer.
