I've SAID this for years.
The OPPOSITE of love is not hate it's INDIFFERENCE.
Which is why I never saw it for xtina to comeback because people didn't hate her they just didn't care and after not using her first 3 eras/5 years to smack the ball home and made her big impact I knew it was downhill.
The smart thing for any artist that wants to establish their impact is
have the right image
work work work
keep reinventions small but noticeable for 3 eras.
This worked with Britney, beyonce, Katy etc.
THEN take a risk.
She reinvented herself too extreme and alienated her audience EVERY era.
I have a strong feeling that people don't care enough about gaga for her to comeback even though I want her to. I think her streaming numbers being so low to her peers, her inability to get a song with a video top 10 on itunes and the continual decline of her show is evidence that people are ok with her but they don't care enough.
People HATED Madonna during the erotica era.
People HATED Mariah (I remember a friend saying she wished it was Mariah instead of aaliyah)
People HATED JLO after Gigli.
People HATED Britney from 2005-2007
People HATED Bieber
People HATED Iggy earlier this year.
People eventually get tired of hating someone.
Madonna got it back right after a couple underperforming eras
Britney got it back right in one of the biggest comebacks in music history
JLO took a break from the public and got it back right.
Mariah changed up her image and slayed
Bieber took a break and took the SAFE route by being "featured" on a song to transition into his stuff
now it's up to Iggy to do the same and turn it back around and put out a song that is so catchy and different and makes people interested.
People were moreso indifferent towards a Kesha, a Gaga, etc.
Honestly people are indifferent towards Katy and Rihanna which means they have to come hard next era if they were ever to flop.
Her album with The Sugarcubes and her album of Icelandic covers when she was 12 don't count
