That review saying her voice is annoying is so damn unprofessional. I dislike the album, but that's the last think I'd comment on negatively - Ellie has a gorgeous voice, great scale and technique. People whose only knowledge about music comes only from listening to it, without knowing how it's built and created, need to be stopped being allowed to review music.
I can hear the throwback to Lights, but the album lacks the higlights like This Love (Will Be Your Downfall), Lights or Salt Skin. And it had more chances to prove itself, considering it's 25 tracks long (Christ....) and Lights was only 11 tracks long (ok, 17 with Bright Lights). Further proof that quantity and quality usually don't come hand in hand. I'll write a track by track later.
But now that I think about it, maybe it's just my personal preferences changing... I used to stan hard and heavy for Lights in 2010 and now I don't listen to it at all. I don't think I would like it if I heard it for the 1st time this year.
Too bad, because the 1st two tracks gave me so much hope (the transition from Intro to Aftertaste, Jesus Christ Sweet Mary Jane).
I wonder how it will fare against Electra Heart in the end (review wise), since both these albums are their "sell-out" ones. From the recent Max Martin factory, I do think Delirium deserves more than 1989 (which was trash), but tad less than EMOTION (I don't like the album either, but it's very well produced).
