well of her almost 45m albums sales in the United States, 35m can directly be attributed to the 1990's. (Mariah, the best selling female recording artist of the 1990's in the United States according to soundscan, shifted around 43m albums in that timeframe in the USA).
in other words, Janet demolished her in the USA in the 1990's.
Janet Jackson is one of the most successful, most impacting global music legends, people who deny her that status, obviously have no clue who this woman is, what she achieved and that 99% of all R&B youngans walk in her shoes.
Only North America cares about the Superbowl so it did not affect her career outside the US. Damita Jo failed to make the top 30/40 in many markets including the UK. Stop blaming the state of her career on that performance.
