Adele is a powerhouse songwriter in her own right though. According to a recent article, she even wrote the guitar riff on the song. It wouldn't surprise me if she wrote most of it herself, this is the woman who came up with the chrous to "Someone Like You".

This is my personal theory of course, maybe he'll surprise. But I think the days of relentless Max Martin smashes are over.
