When "Problem" was released, nobody had a doubt that it was going to smash: it was instantly catchy and a definition of Pop-genius. Probably one of the best Pop-choruses in recent years, which is exactly what "Focus" lacks. After the nice verses and pre-chorus build-up you'd expect a sassy, thrilling and loud chorus but no -- instead you get a lame, tryhard attempt at re-creating "Problems" charm, but the magic simply isn't there, it falls flat. The song simply has no replay value like "Problem" did and the only thing that carries the song out is Ariana's nice voice. In addition, I don't think the doughnut incident had anything to do with it underperforming.
