Making pure Pop music is never going to make you a legend or immortal in the long run. Just look at the songs from the old decades that SYG stans for, most of them aren't Pop.

This is another reason why I'm so sure Taylor is the long-term force in the industry. She's illustrated in the past that she knows this, but also that she wants to the biggest pop star in the world. I have no doubt she's just extending her reach, and she'll return to a sound that crosses genre lines. Also, I think she realizes how easy it is to weaken your image by failing to age gracefully and she's suggested that she'll become a songwriter for others in the future.
