EDITED: Uptown Funk reached 5 million in 20 weeks, and I thought it reached 4 million in 15 or 16 weeks (faster than Roar).. Blurred Lines hit 6 million in 29 weeks (UF was less than 15 k short and had to wait 30 weeks). Somebody That I Used To Know hit 7 million in 56 weeks. Did Thrift Shop beat that?
For physical sales at Soundscan tracking stores, CITW sold 2 million in its 1st day, then hit 5 million in its week 3, 6 million in week 4/5, 7 million in week 6/7/8, and 8 million in week 12. CITW 97 holds the Top 6 selling weeks for physical singles. The song reached 11 million copies because the single sold 2 million copies in non-Soundscan tracking outlets.
Whitney Houston occupies physical sales weeks #7 & 8 with I Will Always Love You (630 k & 580 k I think). Those two weeks Whitney sold all those copies of IWALY, The Bodyguard Soundtrack sold just over 1 million and around 850,000. The "lesser" of the two weeks for both came the week before Christmas in 1992, which set records for both the Hot 100 and BB 200, and then Whitney broke both records again Christmas Week 1992. That goes to show you how hot that song was, and she had three solo songs in the Top 11 for 2 straight weeks too. Her records were of course obliterated by CITW 97, but still the 4.6 million physical singles is the second most in the Soundscan Era.
