I don't think you can say any stanbase is really bothered by Adele's success. There are people who troll her from every stanbase, but for the most part, it's understood that she's the neutral ground.
She competes in a different lane than the pop girls.
Wow. That was the best Gwennie has sounded since, like, the early 2000s before she shot her voice. This song is so good, it's one of her best tracks. This should become successful.
i'm already kinda bored by adele's success because she's just going to predictably snatch every record in sight. there's no sense of competition/struggle to it, just a case of 'will she open with 1.6m or 1.8m?'
But that's only since 2004. And Come On Over still sold many boatloads in the long run so it hardly seems like such an arbitrary record would matter anyway.
COO was a slow burner that never hit #1 in the US.
It's also hardly what I'd call an arbitrary record...
Utada's record is amazing and insane but it really is rather insane how Ayumi's greatest hits album was able to get so many people to go out and buy her album. Can't imagine how much that would bruise your ego to lose after a huge media blitz like that though (nothing in the western world comes close). Now, today, we have Ayumi singing tributes to Utada.
It's impressive that it was a studio album vs. a GA one since Japan usually buys tons of copies of the latter. Some girls want to believe that Ayu won in the long run, but it's Utada's name I often see referenced in Japanese novels and other media.
