And all these post 2000 song eliminations are making me happy so it's good therapy
Runaway Lover was cute, the American Life songs making it this far is inexcusable but w/e
Host commentary - It just has a great chorus and a lovely bridge. It isn't the most memorable Erotica track, but it is still great. I think I love her 90s stuff just because of how pleasant they are to listen to. I know some people call these eras Pretentious-donna or Snooze-donna, and I was glad for some livelier stuff in the 2000s, but I constantly revisit the 90s because of how lovely her vocals and the production consistently are. And I think that is why the 90s does so well in these types of rates. Because even if it isn't your favorite or a standout, the songs are so pleasant to listen to that they are less likely to be dragged.
Guest commentary Subomie - The chorus is the only part I like and even then it goes on a bit.
Alongoria13 - One of my fave Erotica tracks, the bridge is wonderful.
mrmikefern - Why's it so long? Why's it so repetitive?
Host commentary - It is kind of hard to deny that this is just a knockoff Beautiful Stranger. Like I don't think it even bothers pretending to be a different song. So I give it points for just being like "yeah, I'm reductive as hell....so the eff what?!". It is fine, but just like Runaway Lover I can't help but feel like it should have been gone a while ago.
Guest commentary Subomie- Obviously it's a pointless retread of Beautiful Stranger, but as a song it's quite decent. I like the lyrics and the story of it's single status is funny.
Alongoria13 - I love this song I don't get the hate for it, honestly I think it's one of Music's best tracks.
Host commentary - I think songs like this are a big factor in why Confessions works so well. It still has a lovely beat to it, but it is a nice cool down moment amidst the bops of the album. A conventional dance song will start out with a slow build up and then burst at the breakdown. This song and a few others never do that, but since Confessions was meant to be a cohesive dance album I think this is intentional. Some songs function more as build ups to other songs rather than reaching a true peak in themselves. I still love the trance like quality of this song by itself.
Guest commentary HonourableVomit - I don't know what it is about this song, maybe it's the repetition, maybe it's the fact that it is overshadowed by the digestible Forbidden Love after it but this song is gravely underrated. I find it so entrancing, well written to be catchy but also deeply autobiographical. You can feel how far Madonna has come just from hearing her sing the lines, she's accepting her legacy and admitting that it's been a long and unpredictable journey. Plus, what a performance it got on the Confessions Tour, even though I personally prefer the album track to the remix.
Subomie - Cool performance on tour and I like some of the lyrics. That's it.
