I'm screaming at this post where it all started. You defend with your life that you agree the casting was ****ed up yet you say the main character looks ambiguous but you say it in response to that post which means your context is defending the casting; not that you're against it. And the fact that you saw those images posted with clearly american features and yet the ONLY thing you took out of it was hair color... I do agree on some things though (the yellow hair being blonde, Ciel from Kuroshitsuji being white, Lucy being white). They just aren't relevant to the thread but w/e. I don't understand some of aR's receipts though. You could've just posted Sailor Mercury who has blue hair, Sailor Neptune etc. And then using an english boy as a receipt. The design of anime characters just depend on perception like someone posted. If we were in Japan we'd probably see asian because it's the default, unless said or made obvious otherwise.

Whatever the conclusion is, this story is set in Japan (so you'd imagine Japanese people) and this is just another example of white-washing in Hollywood. Hope this is critically panned and flops, just like the stonewall movie.

MOST anime, which are 'slice of life', portray asian-looking characters.

Y'all are referencing old anime works that are popular in the West (Osamu Tezuka, ww2 era etc.), which are white-washed to an extent. But this is definitely not representative of the typical anime in Japan nowadays.



In fantasy anime the hero vs. villain is much more pronounced. The round eyes that take up most of their faces are to make them seem more innocent and baby-like. Big eyes are also more expressive. Villains often have slanted eyes for the opposite reason.

And anime characters also have blue, green and purple hair. What's your point?

This is closer to what the typical anime character looks like. The other characters do look white(2nd and 4th), but they're a rarity.

Nah but personally, I feel racism against Asians is a lot more unspoken, and while it could be a cultural thing, I still think it's so unfair.
