I think AHS is holding up really well given the fact that the main & most important character of the show left. And AHS has never been an ensemble cast, so this is actually a big punch to the show.
Shows like Grey's Anatomy can afford it because that's truly an ensemble cast, literally they can kill pretty much anybody and the show will still hold on it's own.
AHS has ALWAYS been an ensemble cast. Lange just got characters that were more appealing to the target demographic but she was in no way the lead over the others.

I think I've heard enough trustworthy people to listen to that Kacey girl (minus 2AM).

The fact that MH and Asylum were so much better when Jessica's character was a supporting character. She is responsible for the horrible Axeman/Fiona love story, FS idea and Elsa's character. What a diva
I put on my make-up for no one at all,
My heels on the hardwood echo down the hall,
And I open the wardrobe, put my face in your clothes,
And I'm fine.
I try to sleep, but just lie here awake.
I've stopped counting sheep, now I just count the days
'Til you're back in this bed that I remake every time.
And if they ask, I'll say I'm fine.

Of course it hasn't
The show has always been held by her (& Sarah to some degree). Except maybe Murder House.
Imagine Sarah leaving too, the show would be so over.
