Adele's approach was pointedly understated to humour the critics ("she's all about the voice!") yet premiered during a blockbuster primetime show because her demographic is wide, but chiefly older and still watch TV. It's enough of a stunt to get attention online, so it reaches her younger fans too through the coverage. Win/win/win.

It wouldn't make sense for Gaga to do this. Her audience is younger and active, so it should be hyped online via teaser clip, surprise release or a stunt. It should be shareable content and film clips are ideal now because of the auto-play functions on timelines/feeds. Plus, Snapchat, Vine and Instagram are strong with youngsters.

The safest bet would be to launch with a teaser film with the titles, dates, music and look all at once as she's about the whole package. Something they can quickly distribute, push to be seen and get shared organically. Timing wise...I think we're at a time when long, drawn out hype is passe.

What'll be interesting with her is if she is going more adult contemporary post-C2C/TSOM and tries to get the older crowd to buy into it all, too. But, I suspect that will have to happen organically down the line.

she has to focus on online media, she is not such a power house regarding streaming so she has to push that therefore your strategy of putting teasers is great.

she should put different teasers on all online sites, so everyone starts her following her everywhere too.

i still pray that after the end of AHS there is a tv teaser and online tease the same minute, just imagine the hype

Videos are a non factor on a song's success currently, unless it has potential to make memes out of it, like Hotline Bling, Wrecking Ball, Anaconda, etc.

Gaga fans really need to drop the "it didn't smash cause the video sucked" card. A song smashes when it's meant to smash with or without video. It's not 1999 when MTV was the thing and the video was crucial for a song's success.

Gaga needs GOOD songs and not good PR but OUTSTANDING P.R. president candidate kinda PR campaign, her image is on the toilette.

It's cool to hate Gaga nowadays, doesnt matter if she releases the best song in history it wont smash cause it's Gaga, this fact requires extreme marketing to turn it around and make her cool again.

It's practically impossible to be honest at this point, she would never "compromise" anything she's to stuck up in her own ass to notice things.

The key word in your post is *bigger. Of course ir would've been "bigger" but not big by any means.

It doesnt matter if it was thriller 2.0 it wouldnt have made DWUW a *big hit.

Let me give my opinion. Nowadays a hit song has to score on two counts. One - the audio should be good enough to make form a story or image in mind and two the actual video should amplify the impact of the audio. I feel Applause lacked the first aspect. That's why the song started becoming stable only after Gaga performed it and released the video. Selena s good for you or hotline bling has enormous auditory impact that they dint even need visuals... This is what Gaga has to keep in mind. Give 1-2 Ala Dark horse. Good audio and good video. Now it's do or die. If she gives a bad single she will tumble. Market is hugely competitive. Always can't get away with saying that she wants to go the riskier route...

Listening to Adele reminded me of why the GP turned against Gaga.

People love this type of authenticity, no matter what age group/nationality etc.


Gaga definitely needed C2C before her next release because she has really beautiful vocals.

An amazing ballad released at a very appropriate time.

Replay value means nothing in this day and age. Most people don't even watch a music video all the way through because of how short our attention spans have gotten. What fuels most big videos is whether or not the song is good and a hit.

We saw with 'Applause' that Gaga still has the ability to pull in a good amount of viewers. 'Applause' was a moderate hit and so it got a moderate amount of views (200m+). Had 'Applause' smashed, it would probably be sitting pretty with 4-500m views on YouTube.

That's all it is, the music. If she puts out a song that people love, people are going to flock to her video because a) they love the song and b) it's Gaga so they'll be interested in what ~kookiness~ she put out. But B only happens if A does.

Gaga's image is the best it's been in years. Probably the best it's been since 2010.

I won't even get into the whole "compromise" ******** because she literally put out a jazz album for the sole purpose of realigning her career.
