I don't think you're aware of how much globally successful artists care about their sales in the US. After all, being really successful in the US does give an artist more money than being really successful anywhere else. (Other than Japan, but Adele isn't that successful there, so.)

It's more that some people whether you like them or not you can identify as having a gift/talent. It would be like saying Leonardo da Vinci has no talent because you dislike his works, he obvs has talent as the majority could not do what he did just like Adele has a very unique voice that the majority of us could never have. You don't have to like it but it is a gift.
