I think in terms of her image, etc. - it's really difficult for her to carry the show and be responsible for ratings, critics, etc. If she was announced again as a major player for the next season it would kind of become her thing rather than being a means by which to branch out on, you feel me?

I think I know what you mean - if she stars in the next season as a major character then she'll be more seen as one of the main cast members of the show ala Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson etc rather than Gaga joining AHS for a season to diversify her brand as an all around entertainer rather than just a pop singer.
I think the reason why 2015 has been such a fantastic year for Gaga is because she's been allowed to fully explore herself as an artist and explore new avenues to express her creativity. She has a team who now support her doing things that make her happy as a person and as an artist. While I do agree with you, I think Gaga should follow her gut instinct and do what will make her happy.
Even though I obviously have my own opinions and feelings about what she should do next, if someone had said she'd release C2C and go on tour for it, star in AHS, Oscars etc in the end of 2013 I probably would have said "I'd rather have the next pop album". I like that Gaga's been shocking me all year around with how talented she is, it's made for an exciting year. I think the thing I want from her the most is to just shock me with how talented she is. If that's through acting on AHS or C2C2, then I'll be happy to go along with the ride
