Okay, so I've written out my entire storyline synopsis on Word and I'm going to start coming up with characters in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I wanted to post something to save my spot in the competition, so I made a little blurb to accompany the title. It's meant to be vague enough to not give any of the plot away, but expand on the title to give you an idea of the themes the story will deal with.
Think of it like the summary you find on the back of a book or a DVD cover.
And now, without further ado, I present...
AMERICAN HORROR STORY:
SETTLEMENT
Quote:
1958. As the decade comes to a close, the changing times are felt all throughout the culture of the nation; the next generation of the equal rights movement is quickly gaining steam, outpaced only by the steam of the second wave of the industrial revolution, thanks to the mass production facilities of factories expanding across the country. The United States may be enjoying newfound status as a superpower, but along with growth comes mounting pressures on the inside for tighter control. Thirteen years after Hitler’s downfall, many of Europe's once-proud nations remain desolate hovels; freedom and liberty contrast sharply between churning immigration laws against desperate refugees and broken families struggling to start over in the land of opportunity – but how many of them can say that their hands have been left clean by their dark pasts? Set in a small Amish settlement, the harbingers of change descend upon the fields of Idaho as the clock counts down a grim ending to the Cold War, and the formation of a secret society assembled by powerful figures in the shadows begin infiltration into the seedy underbelly of the rising nation's government. How much does freedom and liberty cost when the fight to preserve it goes undercover?
|
The story will revolve around a small Amish settlement in Idaho becoming the subject of interest by the US government looking to buy land in order to conduct nuclear testing and mind-control experiments on unsuspecting civilians in order to win the Cold War against the Soviet Union.
Themes will include Communism, refugees, secret identities, the Civil Rights movement, farming vs. industralization, government testing, radiation poisoning, cults, and the formation of the U.S. Secret Service.

Thank you! I was going to do my original idea, American Horror Story: Farmlands, but then while I was typing the summary, all this stuff about migration and government came up, so 'Settlement" seemed more appropriate, especially since I decided to make the main characters Amish to be different from the other contestants
So if anyone wants to use "Farmlands" if you can't think of a title/location for your own story, please feel free!
I also added a picture I feel its very AHS looking, and it fit with Amish settlement idea.

I don't have time to do anything right now so I won't be joining (I'll try to think of a season theme for next season if there's one) but I sure will be reading because this seems like it's going to be really interesting

'Settlement' seems nice

You should start Asylum. It makes Murder House look like Freakshow
Also @Rian, are you joining?

The lack of 2 parted titles...
I don't have writing talent. I'm more of a maker. But I do have a few titles in my mind if someone doesn't have any inspiration.
AHS: Los Muertos (Story taking place in Mexico, The La Catrina is playing a central role during Halloween episodes, think Edward Mordrake, etc... Kathy Bates as dead serial killer Griselda Blanco, though born in Columbia,...)
AHS: Bermuda (I think someone already has that kind of story though with planes and such it could be based on the Bermuda Triangle which covers up Miami, Florida & Puerto Rico. Think wrecks of ships and planes with capsized victims and a higher force in charge of the Bermuda Triangle)
AHS: Aircraft Factory (The WW II is taking place aka the 1940s, the men serve on the front line while the women work at the factory, iconic figure Rosie the Riveter included - maybe played by Sarah Paulson, strange things happening during shifts, if relevant to the story Hans Gruber aka Dr. Arden could make an appearance, also Anne Frank or other prominent figures during WW II).
Just a few suggestions...

American Horror Story: Flight
Quote:
In 2015, Scarlet Jade (Taissa Farmiga) embarks on her first flight, which might also be her last. When Scarlet's mother Rachel (Sarah Paulson) convinces worrisome father Jason Jade (Matt Bomer) to put away his fear of flight safety, they embark on Flight 66, piloted by Pilot Carter Coral (Denis O'Hare) and Co-Pilot Rhonda Rubie (Kathy Bates), out of LAX set to land at JFK. On the flight, Scarlet befriends Tina Topaz (Angela Bassett) with whom she experiences odd occurrences, gory deaths, and living, deadly "crystalline creatures" with, the end products of sorceress Merlina Garnet's (Jessica Lange) powers which she takes out on the world. Between all of these unnatural & out of the ordinary experiences, this is surely not a flight that will be forgotten, unless of course you don't make it off alive.

How exactly does this work? How long (word count) are episodes? How often are they due? etc.

@Noah yes!
@Alesus: Most of the rounds are blended, which means you have to write a detailed synopsis (summary) of what happened and then a script excerpt of an important scene (you can do more than one if you want) each round. So not very long, like 2-3 pages, and you have 10 days to write.
