Nobody outside the ATRL bubble would care or notice if Gaga and Adele released music the same year.
2017 would be worse because by then she'd be completely forgotten and wiped out of existence and she'd bomb.
Nobody thinks of Adele and Gaga as direct competitors, and nobody is expecting someone who's last album did 2M to actually have competition with someone who's last album did 28M.
It's delusional to deny Adele's slayage didn't affect Gaga's career trajectory. Born This Way was a huge success in all fronts but the media branded it a flop because it paled in comparison to 21. Not to mention their images are complete opposites.

Even if this fantasy was true (never seen anyone compare BTW to 21 or expect it to reach the success of the biggest album since Thriller) there's ALWAYS gonna be big female releases from females as big / bigger than her every single year.
She simply can't 'just not release' out of fear of competitors. That's just gonna do worse for her in the long run.

All the pop girls had good to great eras with plenty of #1 hits and albums during 21. I never got this "no one should release while Adele's releasing" nonsense
Tom Cruise is a bigger movie star than George Clooney and Brad Pitt put together. To think he had multiple blockbusters before their career started and after their career as "stars" ended,
