After the success of 21, she couldn't possibly change her sound much. Otherwise, her new material wouldn't be well-received.

I have to agree. I almost couldn't believe what I was hearing. I thought she was "happy" and releasing music that reflected that? This sounds like a bonus track from 21...
I guess she realized that her heartbreak/reflection songs are what connects with many of her previous buyers.
It's one song though. Not even that, one snippet.
She could be starting the album out with a reflective sad song (because no one is "happy" all the time) and then have other tracks that are more upbeat.

Name me seven or eight Adele songs off the top of your head that sound exactly like this. Shouldn't be hard.
This is a smart tease cause its giving a hint that she's still gonna give you the Adele the world loves. Its not like she's a dance artist she has always sung heartbreak songs they suit her melancholy old soul.
Not even that, one snippet.
