BSB and NSYNC (US only) were more like real pop stars. I know you probably don't remember but everyone of all generations were aware of them and their music. Their fame was much bigger than what 1D currently has.
1D have the numbers for touring and album sales but they literally have no single success and that's what makes pop stars...pop stars. NSYNC and BSB had huge strings of hits, including #1s on the radio. Bye Bye Bye spent 10 weeks at #1 on Pop...
I'd say BSB/N were like a combination of Bieber (fame, everyone knows and hates, etc) and 1D (numbers). 1D don't really elicit a reaction from people outside their demo.
Ugh, it's way better than Feedback and All Nite which she performed. The choreo was fire and Khia's parts are hilarious. I know she hates that song.It was like a huge flop, and the video was a hot mess that all the stans dragged her for but still..That song was actually the one that got me into Janet.. 
Even at the BET tribute she thanked 'everyone who performed' rather than naming Tinashe, Jason and Ciara 
This should have been their breakout but they're still flopping
