The artistic, poetic stuff TENDS to do better but songs have scored well of all styles and genres. We're looking for good writing over potential hits

Not necessarily. If a low-scoring contestant completely crushes it in Round 2 (which happened last season, a low ranking contestant hit #1), and several middle-of-the-pack and high scoring contestants underperform, there's always a chance at redemption.

And different judges like different things. I'm open to all styles of writing. It's not the style of writing I'm looking for, it's how well that style of writing is executed.
