Bey probably would've won for IASF if Taylor wasn't riding the VMAs sympathy wave. I like her and her music but IASF was a juggernaut that year.
It's probably for the best though because if IASF won and Self-Titled didn't....
Ya... to me, albums like IASF should not win AOTY. If that's the case then Red, Loud, etc. would be worthy contenders when they are little more than great pop albums.

All those "Beck vs. Bey" things regarding who personally did more is silly as the award isn't for a person's contributions but for the album itself, and 21 had a lot of contributors as well.

I think Bey shouldve won AOTY for obvious reasons. She not only beat Beck in terms of acclaim, but most importantly, impact-wise. She was being snubbed. I argued with so many people over this. Everyone was attacking Bey over her cowrites and lauding Beck for being the only one on his album. IT WAS ALBUM OF THE YEAR, NOT ARTIST OF THE YEAR
