As for AO, I guess you're ignoring the song itself and just deeming it experimental or not based on the sound and not the song itself.
Again none of the songs Rih has released are mainstream, they might not be experimental or ahead of their time but they sure as hell aren't generic.

I love both BBHMM and AO. But Rihanna specialises in urban pop, so making a trap song isn't that daring for her especially after Una, so yes, I cannot see Katy Perry making a trap song because that isn't what she was supposed to do.
AO is a standard pop song, through and through. I think it is amazing, and I love it but again, stop over selling it. I understand that the breakdowns are supposed to emphasise the song. But, it is a pop song with longer breakdowns.
They are all mainstream songs. Delusional.
