This year's ceremony may have probably been the best in about the last three years or so. Since the tribute with Madonna, who looked extremely magnificent and (without exaggeration) at least in her 30's, I knew this would probably be something special.
The performances, however, were.....hmm.
Janet - In my opinion, I honestly didn't feel like Janet lived up to the hype of her performance, basically because of the duration (how short it actually was) of it. On top of that, she looked extremely emotional, and even a bit out of it (so to speak). Kudos to her moves - she proved she still has it.
Katy - Although her performance of Queen's "We Will Rock You" was basically a 'side-thing', I was blown away by how beautiful she looked [and how well she sang ].
Gaga - Hmm. (Again) in my opinion, Gaga basically did what I expected her to do - a 10 on the weird-o-meter. I don't know, it's just that I expected more from her - generally because of all the hype. I personally set a bar for the performances, and Gaga met my expectations. I just thought that her being...herself, that she would actually surpass my expectations. Nevertheless, the performance was spectacular.
Beyoncé - . The hype. I was actually literally disappointed for the rest of the night up until the time that I went to sleep. The intro was amazing, don't get me wrong. Then I continued to watch, and my 'meter' just fell. Like many said, the performance was good; it was okay, basically. Everyone expected Sweet Dreams; she's performed Single Ladies a million times.
The show, IMO, failed to live up the hype as well, sadly. The inception was favorable, then it all managed to go south. They only presented about four awards, the excessive commercial breaks, the vexatious side performances. [Kid Cudi, Pitbull, Wale - FAIL.]
Kanye. Despicable.
Green Day was probably my biggest let-down performance-wise, and what's worse is that I actually thought that Muse had the better performance. Taylor's performance had managed to be very original, though. Simple, but original.
I didn't catch Jay-Z and Alicia's performance, but from what I heard, it was the best of the night. Kudos to P!nk as well. She was one of the underdogs in the performance line-up, being second to Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, but managed to outshine them all. Her performance was definitely unanticipated and unforeseen. This was probably the best performance, for me, of the night.
Then Beyoncé willingly let Taylor have what should have been her moment, which made up for her performance for me. It really wasn't as surprising, though; Beyoncé has always been a wonderful person.
Sadly, though, the VMAs failed, in sorts, to live up the hype circulating around it.

I agree, but something I've realized is that it's good that she only came out for the end. If she was out for the whole time, it would've been about her. She didn't want it to be about her--she wanted it to be about Michael. So her performance had to be short, and sweet. It was.

Gaga was nothing I haven't seen before. Manson was the better shock performer.
uhhhhhh.... what kinda things are you watching in ur spare time cuz ive never seen anything like that....
sooo overall, gaga was the best performance.... obviously everyone expects me to say that but she really did have the best one. beyonce did an old song with nothing we haven't seen before, taylor had a good performance and her vocals were great, but it wasn't as ground breaking as it could be.... p!nk was probably the closest to gaga because she did something different and she really pushed it with her vocals. jay-z and alicia keys were good and i like the song but once again a bit boring. muse....... no one cares. idk if you would consider what katy perry did as a performance, but it was ok if you do. janet was blahhhhhhhhhh especially because she lipsynched. green day just had a bunch of people rush the stage to hide how boring they are.
in the end no one can compare to how insanely creative, original, and talented miss g is. her vocals were insanely on point and the little bit of dancing she did was great. i dont think anyone really expected THAT... obviously we knew it would be shocking, but no one really expected something on that level.
Please, get over it... there's something call EVOLUTION.

I forgot you knew her personally as a person. If you were a real fan, you'd realize that GaGa is always going to be ever changing and pushing the limit.

how dare you say I'm not a real fan. I've stuck with her from the start, before anybody even knew who she was. I never said I'm going to stop being a fan, I was just giving my honest opinion about everything. I still love her.
I never said I knew her personally, but I do know what her appearance and performance was like at the very beginning of her career, and that is what I liked better. Is there anything wrong with that? At the beginning, GaGa never tried her best to push the limit. She wore catsuits and head scarves. She looked like someone from the future and gave herself a true identity. Now, she changes so much it is hard for anyone to keep up with her. Yet, I will continue to be a fan and enjoy her music.
