Hmm, interesting point of view.
But the mother never gave up the search for the kids, even after decades of their disappearence. And the father seriously injured himself to save them from the fire (thinking that they were upstairs)
And the chief was basically ready to close the case because he thought the fire was hot enough to destroy the bones. If the parents were responsible the mother wouldn't try to prove that it was impossible with experiments and stuff imo.
I looked it up, I hope I can find some episodes online.
