passenger did not fit PRISM or katy's sound at all and black widow is dark horse 2.0 so why would there be another on prism when we already had legendary lovers

mess at yall thinking writing less songs is better i mean yeah quality > quantity but you cant have a solid cohesive album with such a small pool of tracks to select from.

Passenger definetly fit on the second half of the album. But my point is she had great songs and still chose those other two.

But it's all about her being inspired to do great. She wrote less than 20 tracks for Teenage Dream and still put out an incredible album.

I've never had a problem with TOY's vocals and didn't realise they were bad until that thread about "Songs with bad studio vocals" or whatever.

OOTB would have made a good single, and it was already a radio single in Australia between HNC and TOY because HNC had already smashed here while it was smashing in the US, so they needed something else to play (A Dark Horse/Birthday tea here).

She doesn't need to write 50+ songs.

This Is How We Do and International Smile made PRISM because they're two of the best songs on the album though? Passenger is honestly horrible and Black Widow is an inferior Dark Horse.

Black Widow as Dark Horse 2.0 on Prism would have been way better than Teenage Dream reject 5223532.0 with Birthday and International Smile.

I don't think Black Widow ever existed as a song Katy could've recorded herself. It was either an alternate chorus for Dark Horse or it was just written as a hook for Iggy. Highly doubt a demo with verses exists.


On a similar note, I stand by my opinion the chorus to Dark Horses is terrible as a chorus but would be flawless as a bridge. It sounds like it's building up to something epic that never actually comes - all foreplay.

I read somewhere years ago that she wrote 16 songs for TD. All of those songs you mentioned and one other, but I could never find what it was and I can't even find the source saying she wrote 16 songs. Unless they were just talking about Wide Awake as the 16th song?

It doesn't. Katy said it was an unfinished demo that was just a hook on a backing track and she played it for Iggy because she thought she'd like it or something.

I don't even think Katy recorded the demo? It must've been like Sarah Hudson or someone else b/c Iggy said she wanted Katy on it but Katy didn't have time to be in the studio due to PRISM's promo schedule.

And yes, I like DH's chorus too. I understand your sentiment too Benjamin, but the last chorus adlibs/revised melody kind of makes up for it.

Not everyone forgetting about Work It, the (probably) flawless track written with Greg Wells, Rivers Cuomo, and Cathy Dennis. I guess I need to get back into the monthly meltdowns over that song not leaking since its slipping from everyone's mind.

The song Wide Awake rudely stabbed in the back and no one cared.
