I learned about Wannabe later in life because of movies/TV (it was referenced quite frequently) , but when it was actually popular I don't remember at all.
I wasn't exposed to pop music until later. Early, early years were mostly AC rock like Alanis and Sheryl Crow.

The way the USA banded together right after 9/11 was amazing and horrifying at the same time. Groupthink at the highest level. Dare to speak against the illegal and terrorist war the government came up with to prey on society's sympathy? Get destroyed publicly.
