That whole album has such a flat sound, lacks any kind of dynamics, and the girl sounds drunk.

The instrumentation was fine though at times, and wasn't so gauzy and disorienting as the rest of the album

And there we have it! Our winner. I don't think anybody really expected it, least of all me. In fact, I figured LCD's track lengths would lead to him getting dragged. Welp. "I Can Change" was released as third single from the album to much acclaim and little commercial success. Lyrically, the song is about James doing acid to cope with his marriage breakdown he described it as a "desperate" song but also wanted to "make it beautiful". I think we can all agree it succeeds in that regard. Best bit: The bleep-bloop production Best lyrics: "t's good in the dark / But into the lover's light / Here comes another fight"

"Bloodbuzz Ohio" was released as the lead single from High Violet in March 2010 becoming the band's most acclaimed song to date. All the members of The National are from Ohio and this song is about returning home. The term bloodbuzz is another term made up by Matt Berninger, the blood part referring to the fact that Ohio is 'in his blood'. Best bit: Daddy Matt his deep vocals. .Also the little instrumental after each chorus Best lyrics: "I still owe money to the money to the money I owe / I never thought about love when I thought about home"
