One of the band's most famous and revered songs, "Hey Jude" is a sprawling epic of a song that lasts over seven minutes. Written and sung by Paul, it was written in order to help comfort John's son Julian in the midst of his parents' divorce. In 2010, Billboard named it the 10th biggest song of all time.
What the GP had to say:
Bríseis admits to carrying out a little sabotage, saying his 5 was "just to make sure it doesn't win". We let it slide because it kind of never stood a chance and was only very briefly even in the top 10, so... Superpower is left unsatisfied, and says, "Here is another superb track that feels underwhelming because the live version is SO good. That's not a bad thing but I'm taking some points off." Buyonce1814 hints at sabotage, too, and says, "I high-key wanted to rate this low because it's incredibly annoying and overplayed, but there is a reason why. It does have inspiring lyrics. It has an incredibly catchy melody. And the change in pace/melody in the last half is legendary. It should be a 10 but I'm giving it a 7 just because I'm fed up of it." "I'd give it a 10 if the outro didn't go on for so long," says IcarusIsFlying, and lousaysthings feels similarly, saying it "would be higher if it wasn't for that trash outro." Finally, some more outro slander from Lucas32, who says, "A deserved classic but the song could be about two minutes shorter. The "Na na na na, hey Jude" cannot carry the last 4 minutes and makes it a bit of a drag." I expected this one to be at least top five but apparently not.
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was written and sung by George for the band's 1968 self-titled album. Listed as #136 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs Of All Time", the song features uncredited contributions from Eric Clapton, who plays lead guitar on the song.
IcarusIsFlying calls it "the best song on The White Album (which is mainly trash, one of their worst albums, don't @ me)." superben also praises it by saying "I much enjoy the Eastern influences," but says, "I kind of wish they recorded a more stripped-down version, especially reducing the bass and drum." potent, however, is not a fan and calls it "one of their most overrated songs. It's rather boring, by the end it's just dragging on."
