Vivillon's actually pretty deadly in NU. My team includes a specially defensive Sap Sipper Miltank, who can usually check Vivillon pretty well. But other than her, Vivillon just rolls over my team

Poison wasn't even a factor until Gen 6 and even then only as an attack type.

Aaand let me stop you right there.
Fun fact: there is one, and only one Pokemon, that has stayed in the OU tier for six straight generations without leaving once. Do you know who that is?
Gengar. A Poison type.

New rule for the hurt and heal game:
If you punch a Pokemon out, you get another go of 5 hurts&heals to use that day.

He didn't get there because of his weakness to Psychic (and Ground in the first 2 gens). His Ghost typing (being unique to Gen 1), along with a stat distribution most Pokemon will ever only dream of, as well as a movepool sufficient enough to use it, is what made him a staple in OU. Gengar would have honestly been better off being pure Ghost for the first 5 gens.
EDIT: Only reason Chansey isn't on that list is because Blissey was introduced. Chansey + Blissey together have been OU since Gen 1! Queens!

I only hate bug types bc I hate bugs in real life, and I have a habit of envisioning pokemon as if they were real. Can you imagine a 5 foot tall abomination like Scyther looking you in the eye, hissing loudly, etc Gen 7 will probably introduce a roach pokemon too Only Vivillon and Volcarona are somewhat redeemable.
edit: Also, hasn't Starmie or Alakazam been OU since Gen 1? Crazy to think how different the meta was then, Tauros being the KING of RBY OU, and having been NU for pretty much the last 4 Gens. At least Snorlax has been solidly UU for a while, AV Thick Fat Snorlax slays tbh.

Scyther would be a cool af guardian though. Like who needs an Arcanine, who some might consider cute, when you have a big ass praying mantis who'd be able to decapitate you in seconds?

Both have dropped down to UU before, I think that's where Starmie is currently perched, actually. Defog kinda killed the poor bitch.

I didn't say I wouldn't be scared of it in real life, even Ledyba or Butterfree would be scare/repulse me Just that it's one of the only ones whose non-real design looks cool enough for me to get over my insect phobia to use in game

Just checked Smogon, Starmie is listed as OU for every gen. I don't know if it maybe temporarily dropped down to UU at some point, but it always ended up OU apparently. So she was always here to outspeed & OHKO Gengar
You're right about Alakazam, I haven't done anything other than random battles for months, so I guess I didn't notice it dropping down to UU.

For the first two gens, maybe. But during gens III through V, when Psychic types were swiftly becoming irrelevant? Hell no.

It was UU during the X&Y era, pre-ORAS.

Even if Psychic was becoming irrelevant, his Poison typing was not a make-or-break deal for Gengar. All it does is give him...grass resistance. He's already immune to Fighting, and Ghost by itself resists its own Poison typing. You also would've been really stupid to use Poison as an attack type with Gengar, even though it got STAB. It simply always had better options up til Gen 6, where Fairies became a huge part of the metagame, and Poison was the best answer to them.

Yeah I saw Bill's post, and that whole entire era is a blur to me, it kinda just meshes together. I'll take your guys' word for it.

Oh, probably Defog reducing her utility (Rapid Spin) + Knock Off having incredible distribituon, esp fighting types. She was extremely valuable in Gen 5 due to resisting fighting which was pretty common, being one of two(?) spinners, and I guess you could have included her on a rain team since it was so prevalent.
