Same reason most Americans don't remember March 11 2004. Terrorism is always a big deal of course, but it's hard to vividly remember something that happened 80000 miles away when you were a kid and had no direct impact on you.
Anyway yes, I was in high school and I remember both teachers and students gathered in the teacher's lounge being horrified watching the coverage and worried that this would ignite world war 3.

Not to compare tragedies (

) but 9/11 was a much bigger deal. Much higher death toll and it was a more shocking sight. I mean to see such a disaster in New York, one of the most loved and important cities in the world, it's shocking. Not to mention America is a much more relevant country than Spain
And I mean, you don't still see documentaries and stuff on TV about the train bombings like you do 9/11
