You know Gaga would sell more than Avril if they released their debut/second albums around the same time.

As of now, Avril's career is bigger but they will be tied once Gaga releases her next album.

Katy was influenced by Gaga only for only a few costumes not like she was a Gaga clone when she was actually the opposite. Nicki just had a phase in the RR era, they were not Gaga Clones, all Gaga clones flopped.

And about Avril we saw a huge huge shift in the industry from Britney's bubblegum pop to Avril's pop rock. If you didn't saw that you were probably a kid back then.
