You get improved performance and a few new features ala 3D Touch/Touch ID/Siri. Also, nobody is forcing you to go out and buy this new phone. If you're on a contract and you can upgrade, YAY. If not, just wait. Whether you get the new S's today or wait a year until the 7, you're going to get a better phone than what you have now. I have an iPhone 5 and while the new features would be nice, my phone still runs fine and looks like I just bought it.
Okay, now that that rant is done with, I'd be happy with either one. They both great additions

OK if you're still using an iPhone 5 (not even a 5S, 5!) in 2015 and you think it runs great then obviously there's something wrong with you.
That phone is so old and dated. Yikes!
