The Apple TV (before this one) is basically a Roku - a port to be able to watch Neflix, Hulu, iTunes, Youtube, ect on your TV.

It's like the Amazon Fire Stick or Roku with an Apple name on it. It's also the only one that will play videos from iTunes from your TV with an internet connection.
