It's insufferable, that song alone makes me hate Halsey a bit
NAWT when ya'll (in general) are stanning down to this
Yeah I smoke pot, yeah I love peace
But I don't give a ****, I ain't no hippy
Yeah I smoke pot, (do it) yeah I love peace (do it)
But I don't give a **** (do it), I ain't no hippy (ah)

I'm okay with lackluster lyrics as long as the melody's good, but this: We are the new Americana,
High on legal marijuana,
Raised on Biggie and Nirvana,
We are the new Americana.

There's a lot I could say about Miley's album to defend it but I'll just say Miley's album shows she is unabashedly herself while Halsey is voiceless Tumblr aesthetic.

Makes me appreciate Lana and her vile lyrics now.
I mean the idea of "Americana" is just so overused since the rise of Lana and the fact that she is passing off this watered down idea of teenage rebellion and Americana as her own is gross. But yes, those lyrics are trash.

I would love New Americana so much more if I were still in middle school trying to be an edgy rebel. It's cute but once she rids herself of the Lana-isms she's ok
Ciara will never get another hit, because her music is mediocre and far from the current mainstream picture.
I mean, Body Party was EVERYTHING. But Basic Instict was terrible, self-titled was very simple, and Jackie is ultra terrible. She has no direction. These boringggg ass R&B songs she's done 10 times with different titles, and the attempts at Pop which are even worse.

In her interview with Last.fm, Halsey dismissed the immediate response about these lyrics seeming to be “fun party lyrics, something people would scream drunk at a bar”:
>When you dig a little bit deeper, it’s about how since we’ve grown up in a generation where there’s open-format music, where I was nine years old listening to my dad’s 2Pac records and my mom’s Nirvana records […] I was exposed to different cultures, different walks of life, different ideas […] so the older I got, the less scared me. And the less shocked me, appalled me, and the more open to diversity I was. […] I think that music has instilled this ideology in this generation.
As of mid-2015, four states legalized the recreational use of marijuana, with many others allowing it with medicinal purposes only. Halsey brings this up to push on the advancing and present changes in the preconceived notions of American culture as we know it, especially because the legality of weed is a controversial topic across the country.
the only reason you excuse Vyrus is cause you know her. if she was a new artist with lyrics like that you would trash her and call her tryhard and cringeworthy (which she is)
