I've noticed this happening more and more each time a pop girl releases an album. I think many critics both male and female are negatively biased towards female popstars. Maybe because they think they're all "manufactured" and commercial. But when a female artists does experiment with other genres, the critics don't praise them, they trash them (see Impossible Princess by Kylie Minogue). The bias needs to stop. Especially when many (trashy) rap albums get high 70s and 80s.
